Our destination was a little seaside village called Bayfield, located in Wisconsin. The main attractions in this area are the Apostle Islands, a group of islands directly off Wisconsin's coast.
Our road trip lasted nearly five hours, and we saw some interesting sights in Minnesota and Wisconsin along the way.
As Bayfield is famous for its quaint bed and breakfasts, we were hoping to find lodging in this form. However, because we booked so late, we were unable to find any open bed and breakfasts. We found a good alternative - Legendary Waters Resort and Casino, which was on the reservation of the Red Cliff Tribe, a band of Lake Superior Chippewa Native Americans. The hotel had a fantastic view of the lake, as well as its own marina and beach. We got playing credits for the casino since we were hotel guests, and David even managed to win $30 playing the slot machines!
We spent our first evening in Bayfield exploring the town and its small harbor, and eventually made our way to a restaurant serving Lake Superior whitefish with the traditional roasted red potatoes and vegetables.

We started out the next morning with a fantastic breakfast at Greunke's First Street Inn. There I had the most fabulous pancakes I have ever eaten, which were covered in raspberries from the local orchards.
We then explored the town a little more before heading to a remote beach on Lake Superior, a few miles south of Bayfield.

On our second evening in Bayfield, we took a boat trip around the Apostle Islands, which lasted about three hours. On this trip we were able to see the forests, sandstone cliffs, sea caves, lighthouses, and former fishing villages on these islands. The islands are now owned by the U.S. National Park Service, so for the most part, the islands no longer have private homes.

The next day we sadly left the lovely town of Bayfield. On our way to the highway, we stopped at an organic wind/solar-powered farm to get some berries to take back to the big city. We also enjoyed the interesting sights along the country highway on our way back to Minneapolis.

Yes, I think you are right about that bar being in Hayward. I saw several other funny things there and really should have stopped! I would absolutely love to come visit you in MI. I will see if we can schedule a road trip!
