Thanksgiving in Southern California

Greetings from the frozen tundra otherwise known as Minnesota! This winter is shaping up to be much less mild than last winter, to say the least. The crazy holiday season kept me from posting about our Thanksgiving trip in late November, but I finally have found some time to share our adventures with you.

Since both of us had two days off from work for the Thanksgiving holiday, we decided to leave cold Minneapolis for somewhere a bit sunnier. We settled on southern California, since I had never been there. We stayed in a beach town outside of Los Angeles named Manhattan Beach, and planned several excursions from there.

On Thanksgiving Day we took our little rental car up the Pacific Coast Highway from Santa Monica through Malibu, stopping along the way at beaches, piers, and state parks.

We unfortunately did not eat at this Mexican restaurant.

                                                      Staring at the sea

                                                  And the tide gets David!

                                                  Finally, some sunshine

Thanksgiving dinner at Malibu Beach Cafe - David got the fried fish extravaganza

On our second day we headed to Anaheim, CA, home of Disneyland! Since we had been to Paris Disneyland before, it was only fitting that we go to the original Disneyland park to compare notes...

I am so excited right now!

                                                             Me too!

Watching the pirate ship as we dined.

After an exhausting day at Disneyland, we headed to Hollywood in search of stars...

We strolled along the Hollywood strip, trying not to get pick pocketed....

Wonder how many vagrants have urinated on this sign...

What do you know, the Church of Scientology right in the middle of the Hollywood strip...

Zoltar, as seen in "Big" starring Tom Hanks.

If you look really hard, you can see the "Hollywood" sign in the hills behind the buildings.

                                               Sid Grauman's Chinese Theater

                                                     My man Bruce Willis

                                              Al Pacino's suit in "Scarface"

On our last day we had a little time before we needed to head to the airport, so we stopped in Marina del Rey and Santa Monica.

                                                     A city of boats

And we almost stopped at Venice Beach, but I was convinced that my car would have no hubcaps upon my return if I left it parked here.

Pacific Park at Santa Monica Pier

                                                   Riding the Ferris Wheel

An old school arcade on the pier
